Porcelain veneers are wafer-thin shells of porcelain that are bonded onto the front side of teeth so to create a cosmetic improvement for a tooth.

Dental crowns typically encase an entire tooth whereas porcelain veneers only cover over the front side of a tooth.
Crowns are used for teeth that need to be strengthened either because they have broken, have been weakened by a very large filling, or have had root canal treatment.
